“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” – John C. Maxwell
As the saying goes, leaders are those who illuminate the way to a better future. Students of today are the leaders of tomorrow. Inculcating leadership qualities among the young is vital for creating great leaders of the future. A grand Investiture Ceremony was held in Delhi School of Excellence, Banjara Hills on 25th June, 2019, for administering the oath and handing over the responsibilities to the democratically elected members of student council.
The student council members were elected after a vigorous and enthusiastic campaigning by the candidates for their respective positions and paperless voting by the students of Grades V to X and the teachers. The program began with the welcoming of the Chief Guest Mr. Narayan Iyer, the CEO and & National Co-ordinator (Mumbai) of Indian Development Foundation; the Chairman, Mr. Madhusudhan Rao; the Vice Chairperson, Ms. Shilpa Ravi; the Secretary, Ms. Rama Devi; the Academic Director, Ms. Shashikala and the Prinicpals, the Vice Principal and the Head Mistresses of DSE Attapur and Manikonda branches with bouquets and momentos. A melodious and inspiring rendition of the school song by the students filled the air. The invocation dance by students was graceful and enthralled one and all. It was a perfect amalgamation of Indian culture of Yoga and Kuchipudi dance set to the fusion music of Indian classical and western music.
In the Investiture Ceremony, the Head Boy and the Head Girl were the first to be conferred the school flag and sashes by the Chief Guest. The other elected members of the student council as well as the mentors of the four houses – Knights, Spartans, Samurai and Trojans were also conferred badges and flags by the other dignitaries. There was great excitement among those who gathered there when the balloons representing the four houses and the DSE were released to celebrate the joyousness of the occasion.
The Principal, Ms. Veena Murthy administered the oath to all the elected members. This was followed by the beautiful singing of a lilting song with English and Hindi lyrics, set to the tune by Mr. Shashank. The Chief Guest took the salute of the smart marching contingents of the elected members as well as the members of the four houses.
The Chief Guest in his inspiring speech exhorted the students to shoulder responsibilities with utmost sincerity, accept challenges and to be generous in giving to those less privileged. The Principal, Ms. Veena Murthy in her speech asked the students to be self motivated, self disciplined and to be a bridge between different generations. The last performance of the cultural program was a street play enacted by the elected members showcasing the need to fight the ills of society plaguing us such as poverty, corruption and unemployment so that our country can have a better future. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Cultural Secretary and the program ended with the singing of the national anthem.
