Telugu Day was celebrated in Delhi School of Excellence, Banjara Hills, on 28th August, 2019, with an impressive display of literature, music and dance performances by the students of Grades I – IX. Hasini and Nishta, the students of Grade VII B, compered the program by speaking in chaste Telugu. The compering was done in a unique way with a role play by Hasini being Gidugu Ramamurthy, one of the earliest Telugu linguists and social visionaries, and Nishta playing the role of Kaloji Narayan Rao, freedom fighter and eminent Telugu writer. Charan, a student of Grade II B, began the program by confidently reciting Sataka Padyalu, poems in Telugu. The students of Grades VI and VII sang a song, in a local dialect of Telugu, praising the contributions of many stalwarts of Telugu literature right from the time of earlier poets such as Pothana and Nannayya to modern poets such as C. Narayana Reddy and Sri Sri. The song also spoke about the sweetness of Telugu and its spread as a language that is used extensively. The students of Grades III – V performed a folk dance gracefully and in rhythm with music that enthralled everyone. The students of Grade I sang a song praising the love of a mother and danced beautifully too, much to the cheer of all.
